As early as the 1900s!

12/4/12

Now that you know what a fad is.. you're probably wondering why it matters? Well we’ve had fads throughout all of history. Starting all the way back in the 1900s, seems so long ago, but yes even the people back then went through fads. They didn’t exactly wait outside for hours to get the latest iPad, but they had somewhat equivalent items.

Think all the way back to the 1900s..  just imagine you were alive back then and a young man or boy. You had just seen Teddy Roosevelt, your countries President use this thing called a B.B. gun. Seeing someone you look up to being able to have one of these awesome weapons, you just had to find a way to get your hands on one yourself. Soon enough, every boy was begging their parents, at one point 40,000 were sold in one month. That’s right 40,000 B.B. guns were sold over the period of just one month.

Actually during about the same time, Teddy bears came out, yes the well known and stuffed animal you all know and love came out during the time. Every little boy and girl just had to have one of these adorable toys that are now so common today. What most people do not know is where these fluffy bears came from. Believe it or not, in 1902, there was an injured black bear Teddy Roosevelt came across while hunting and refused to shoot. Media found out, and started calling it “Teddy’s Bear” and what do you know? Soon enough we had these cuddly toys and even TV shows being made. I found that information online from an article about the decades.

I just find that so interesting, it really shows how much fads are initiated and maybe even created by the media.
